NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets forward Julius Randle is heading into his 13th NBA season and along the way, he has experienced plenty of situations as he competed for NBA titles. Brooklyn brought in Randle as a way of improving the team's performance compared to last season and he has an idea of how one of the youngest teams in the league can exceed expectations.
"I think it starts tomorrow with training camp, and we just build from there. We stack days, continue to improve, come in with the right focus every single day," Randle said during his Media Day interview on Monday. Earlier in the offseason, Randle said to various members of the team that the Nets were going to "shock the world" as a way of showing confidence in the roster and he expanded
on what that means in a practical sense.
"For me, when I've done that in my career, the teams that I've been a part of that have done that in their career, the results always follow," Randle continued. "I think we have great leadership in the coaching staff with Jordi and everybody else. We have the talent, and I think it's really just about the mindset. Not just coming in every single day, but coming in with intention and purpose."
Randle, 31, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 31.5% from behind the three-point line. Randle played and started in 79 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season and while Minnesota made it to the second round of the playoffs, Randle was traded to the Nets as the Timberwolves were looking for a different setup.
That trade worked to the benefit of the Nets and Randle as they acquired an All-Star caliber player with plenty of gas in the tank and he entered a situation where he'll have a bigger role compared to his Minnesota days. Brooklyn is expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season as the rebuild is still ongoing, but Randle knows how a team can be the best version of itself and he sounds optimistic about his new team.
