Brooklyn Nets forward Julius Randle came to the Nets this offseason after trying to win a championship with the Minnesota Timberwolves following his time with the New York Knicks. Brooklyn is coming off a rough season after finishing the 2025-26 NBA season with a 20-62 record, but Randle is hoping to do for the Nets what some people are ascribing to him after the Knicks reached the mountaintop.
"Oh no, I appreciate that. What the organization [Knicks] accomplished is great, [it's] been a long time coming. It took a lot of hard years, a lot of different players to build it up to what it was," Randle said while answering a question from content creator Edu Marangoni. Randle was being given credit from Marangoni for being one of the key figures
for the Knicks as the team went through its rebuild a few years ago.
"So you know, it's amazing, definitely look forward to creating that in Brooklyn," Randle continued. Randle had arguably the best stretch of his career during his time with the Knicks as he averaged 22.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 45.0% from the field and 33.8% from behind the three-point line in his five seasons with the organization.
Heading into the 2024-25 campaign, the Knicks traded Randle to the Timberwolves for a package that brought center Karl-Anthony Towns to New York as the team was gearing up for a title run. In the two years after that trade, the Knicks went to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since the 1999-00 season and won the league title for the first time since the 1972-73 campaign.
One could argue that the Knicks wouldn't be in the position to win a championship without the Randle trade or the Nets trading Mikal Bridges to New York, but Randle had enough value to bring Towns to the Knicks. Either way, Randle doesn't want to take credit for what the Knicks did since he left, but he is looking to do the same thing for the Nets at some point in the near future.
