The Brooklyn Nets have had plenty of great players play for the organization over the franchise's 59-year history that spans the ABA and the NBA. Brooklyn recently had a stretch where many around the league considered them to be a title contender with star forward Kevin Durant in the fold and one of his peers considers him to be one of the best players in league history.
While Miami Heat forward Bam Adebayo was speaking at an event, he gave his list of the best five players to have ever played in the NBA and Durant was among the quintet. Among the others alongside Durant, Adebayo chose Kobe Bryant, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Michael Jordan, and Tim Duncan, some of the greatest players of all-time.
Durant, 37, is nearing the end
of an historic career in which he proved to be arguably one of the most consistent players over the course of almost two decades since he entered the league. Durant had what could be considered his best stretch of basketball during his time in Brooklyn as he averaged the most points per game and assists per game with the Nets than he did for any other team.
Durant, who spent parts of three seasons with the Nets, averaged 29.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 40.0% from behind the three-point line. While Durant was arguably at his best during his time in Brooklyn, the Nets were only able to get to the second round of the playoffs just once despite having a roster with him, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden at one point.
Ultimately, Brooklyn decided to pivot in a different direction during the 2022-23 season as the organization traded him to the Phoenix Suns for a package including four first-round picks and one first-round pick swap. It's been a long time since Durant was with the Nets, but with Adebayo acknowledging his greatness, Nets fans can at least take a stroll down memory lane to remember what it was like to watch him play at Barclays Center.
