There was a lot of talk this offseason from inside Halas Hall about the Chicago Bears' offensive goals in 2026. The Bears want to be special this season on the offensive side of the ball. The expectations were high for Ben Johnson and former Trojan Caleb Williams entering their second year together. Both Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams met those expectations and then some in Game 1.
The Chicago Bears' offense looked like the best offense in the NFL on Sunday. The Bears scored the most points in franchise history in Week 1. That truly goes to show that the offense the Bears will have this season has not been seen before in Chicago. Caleb Williams was elite, facilitating the Bears' unstoppable offense. Caleb threw for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns.
He coupled that with 65 yards on the ground and 2 rushing touchdowns.
A big area of weakness for Caleb Williams was his completion percentage, and in Game 1 he finished with a 72.4% completion percentage. He looked very comfortable and confident out there against a solid defense from the Carolina Panthers. He made big-time throws, and he showcased that he is ready to take that next step.
The Bears offense finished the game with 552 total yards. Pure dominance through the air and on the ground. This game was quite the statement from Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.
Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams are well on their way to breaking the single-season scoring record with an opening 59-point performance. Confidence should be very high surrounding the Bears' offense. The defense may not be as good as it was last season, but if the offense has the capability to put up nearly 60 points, they won't have to be. What a time to be a fan in Chicago.
