There can not be a week in the Big Ten without an upset. This week, the USC Trojans were on the right side of a monumental victory. Their season has a ton of hope now moving forward, while the Wisconsin Badgers, the team they lost to last week, seem to be heading in the wrong direction after a Week 9 blunder.
Here are the scores from this weekend in Big Ten football, plus my breakdown for each team:
Illinois 20-17 vs Maryland
Katin Houser returned this week, and the Illinois Fighting Illini were just good enough to squeak by the worst team in the Big Ten. This was not an impressive win and was a step backward after last week's win over Oregon.
Iowa 30-0 vs Wisconsin
Just like the USC Trojans were a different team this week, the same could be said for the Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers did not
show up in any regard. The Iowa Hawkeyes proved in this game that Kinnick Stadium is a hard place to win. Iowa gets back to being viewed as a contender, while Wisconsin will now fall down a peg.
Michigan 28-21 vs Rutgers
The Michigan Wolverines escaped a close call due to a great performance by Tommy Carr. The passing game was one of the only bright spots in the Wolverines' win, as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights offense was able to make a dent in Michigan's defense.
Oregon 34-26 vs Northwestern
The Northwestern Wildcats proved this season that they can win games they are supposed to; this team still has some work to do when it comes to closing out games against good teams. They took their foot off the gas, and Dylan Raoulia made them pay for it with a special comeback in the second half.
Indiana 23-16 vs Minnesota
The Indiana Hoosiers finally made a change at quarterback this week. For another week, they were taken to the brink of an upset. The Minnesota Gophers showcased that they are quality opponents in the Big Ten. Grant Wilson uplifted the Hoosiers' offense, proving to be the better option at quarterback for the Hoosiers moving forward. If Indiana improves its quarterback play, their contention outlook looks much better.
Penn State 31-17 vs Purdue
The Penn State Nittany Lions' run game was far too dominant for the Purdue Boilermakers' offense to keep up. Penn State gets back on the right track with a much-needed victory.
UCLA 27-0 vs Nevada
The UCLA Bruins put up another masterclass defensive performance to shut out the Nevada Wolfpack. Bruins now cruise to 8-0 on the season, inches closer to a perfect season.
USC 30-18 vs Ohio State
The USC Trojans outplayed the No. 2 team in the country for four quarters. This game showed that USC is more than capable of knocking off the best teams in the country. This team just needs to show up like this consistently. This very well could be the win for USC that propels them to success this season and in the future.
Washington 17-10 vs Nebraska
Elijah Brown had the hot hand in the past weeks, and in this game he lost his spark. That fact almost cost the Huskies the game until it was time to make the call for Demond Williams Jr. to come in. In the 4th quarter, the former Heisman candidate and starting quarterback came in and brought life to the Huskies' offense. He led Washington to a spectacular comeback win. This was a huge moment for Demond Williams and a career-defining one.
