Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns head coach Michael Desormeaux has been on the job for almost five years. The 2026 season is his fifth on the job with the program. USA TODAY Sports wrote about Desormeaux when he was hired in late 2021:
"Desormeaux was Louisiana’s running backs coach in 2016 and tight ends coach in 2017 under Mark Hudspeth, who was fired after seven years following the 2017 season. Desormeaux was named interim head coach after Hudspeth was let go and before (Billy) Napier was hired. Napier retained Desormeaux as tight ends coach, and he promoted him to co-offensive coordinator along with receivers coach Tim Leger when offensive coordinator Rob Sale left after the 2020 season to coach the New York Giants offensive line."A New Iberia native
and product of Catholic High there, Desormeaux got his coaching start as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Catholic High from 2010-13, then was head coach at Lafayette’s Ascension Episcopal School for three seasons. At Ascension Episcopal, he took over a AES program that finished 0-9 the year before and led them to five wins in 2013, eight the next year and an 11-2 record and the Division IV state semifinals in 2015."
The USA TODAY article also mentioned Desormeaux played for Louisiana from 2004-2008.
As head coach of the Cajuns, Desormeaux is 29-25. He has been able to get to bowl games consistently, but just barely, going 6-7 in three of his four seasons and winning 10 games in a separate season. Louisiana is projected to be close to a .500 team once again this year. If Louisiana finishes 6-6 in 2026, it would be the fourth time Desormeaux coached a .500 Ragin' Cajun team in the regular season.
