Big Ten play is officially here for USC! After finishing their nonconference slate 3-0, the Trojans will open up conference play on the road this week at Rutgers.
In his press conference following Tuesday’s practice, head coach Lincoln Riley revealed that USC will have a different travel schedule than usual this week. The team will depart for New Jersey on Thursday, rather than the typical Friday flight for away games.
Of course, USC traveling to Rutgers is not your typical road trip. The closest major airport to the campus is Newark, which is a flight of more than five hours from Los Angeles—in addition to a three-hour time difference. Seemingly, the Trojans want to give themselves additional time to adjust to being on the East Coast prior to the game.
Perhaps USC is looking to avoid the same mistake that another Los Angeles football team recently made. Last week, the Rams arrived in Australia just one day prior to their game there against the San Francisco 49ers, a move that infamously backfired.
Kickoff between USC and Rutgers is set for 12:30 p.m. Pacific time/3:30 p.m. Eastern time Saturday on CBS.
