The USC Trojans got punched in the mouth by Oregon. However, there were some bright spots within the loss. For example, Kayden Dixon-Wyatt was good in the first half, and other freshmen were making plays. The Trojans have guys who did not shrink under the big lights, which bodes well for the future.
Here is my breakdown of how each of the true freshmen for the Trojans fared in Week 4:
Tron Baker, receiver
Tron Baker did not get too many targets in this game, but this is just another week where he showed he is a quality target for Jayden Maiava. He is a freshman you can trust to go out there and make a play or 2. That is exactly what Baker did against Oregon. Baker had 2 catches for 27 yards.
Boobie Feaster, receiver
Boobie Feaster only got one catch again, but this was a catch that meant much
more. It was a 27-yard gain, and it just showed he can be a big playmaker in this offense moving forward. There is no clear return date for Trent Mosley, but even in some really competitive games, Jayden Maiava can throw the ball his way, and he will make a play.
Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, receiver
Kayden Dixon-Wyatt did not shrink in the biggest game of the season. He was unguardable in the first half as he had 88 yards receiving and a touchdown. He ended up finishing the game with 114 yards, the 2nd most in the entire game from both teams. He looked like one of the best players on the field, and that is a very encouraging sign for what is going to come during his tenure at USC.
Mark Bowman, tight end
Mark Bowman is still a freshman, and there were some mistakes he made late, like not getting out of bounds when the clock was ticking. However, it is clear he is a weapon for Jayden Maiava, and Maiava trusts him. He has shown he can make some big plays for the offense. Right now, he is still scratching the surface of what he can be. Bowman finished the day with 6 catches for 44 yards against Oregon.
Luke Wafle, defensive end
Wafle and the Trojans' defensive line were impressive overall early in this game. Wafle had a tackle for a loss. Wafle finished the day with just 2 total tackles. Still, he made his presence felt, and he's on his way to becoming that game wrecker. Once he can get the sack production, he will become even more valuable for the Trojans.
