Lincoln Riley has been one of the best offensive minds in college football for some time. During his tenure at USC, he has yet to find his perfect complement as a defensive coordinator. Riley may have stumbled on the right fit this offseason with veteran coach Gary Patterson.
In a recent tweet, USC Trojans reporter and analyst Shotgun Spratling pointed out Lincoln Riley's feelings toward his right-hand man, Gary Patterson. Here is what he had to say:
"#USC HC Lincoln Riley on addition of DC Gary Patterson: "You can't put a price tag on this guy's experience. I mean, there's just not much that this guy hasn't seen."
Gary Patterson gives the Trojans' coaching staff tons of credibility and great defensive production. The majority of the teams that
are successful have an elite coaching staff. One area where the Trojans have to take a big leap is on defense. Patterson should facilitate that improvement. Having two head coaches, in essence, should elevate the Trojans to where they need to be to compete in the Big Ten.
