The USC Trojans face the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns this week. College Football News looked at Louisiana in the offseason:
"The receiving corps isn’t bad,but it needs the quarterback play to step up and get everyone the ball. Shelton Sampson led the team with 32 catches and six scores, tight end Caden Jensen is a nice short-range pass catcher, and there are just enough veterans returning to start doing more."The offensive style still works.Get things moving with the running game, and let the offensive line take over when it’s in a groove. There’s enough on the interior returning to do even more – expect at least 200 yards on a regular basis. Control the clock.The Ragin’ Cajuns aren’t great at consistently keeping the chains moving, but when they
do, and when they’re not giving the ball away in bunches, it’s hard to get them to stop with the style.
"The quarterback play has to be far, far better.Walker Howard is leaving for Ole Miss, but he had a rough year and was pushed out by D’Wanye Winfield. 'Lunch' Winfield ran for 667 yards and a team-high nine scores, but he only hit 59% of his throws and threw seven picks. There are a whole lot of eggs put in the (running back) Anthony Reagan basket. More on this in a moment – he comes in from Howard with great quickness and receiving skills, but there’s not a lot behind him. The running back situation is shockingly thin. Winfield is the most dangerous runner, and Steven Blanco averaged over five yards per carry on his 30 carries."Turnovers were devastating.There were way too many mistakes, mostly because the offense was pushing too hard. It turned it over multiple times in seven games and lost five of them.
