A few former USC Trojan receivers tore it up in the NFL this week, and a safety for USC put up a career performance to lead his team to victory in a prime-time game. Things are looking up for some young players from USC, while 2 running backs are struggling to find their rhythm.
Here is my breakdown of how some former USC football players fared in the third week of the NFL season:
Marshawn Lloyd
The Packers' run game is nonexistent. Marshawn Lloyd has been a big part of the Packers' run game being unsuccessful. Lloyd ran for a total of 11 yards on 4 carries. He is not making a case for himself to be the top back or an impactful player on the offense.
Drake London
Drake London was a star this week. As soon as he got his guy back, Michael Penix Jr., Drake London was fully unlocked.
Drake London had 9 catches for 194 yards. It was a nearly perfect game, and London has to be excited for what is to come with his and Penix Jr.'s connection being back. Drake London's big season is back in play.
Leonard Williams
Leonard Williams kept his sack streak going for a 3rd straight week. He has still been that dominant force up the middle for Seattle. He also chipped in 3 tackles total.
Uchenna Nwosu
Nwosu made some plays once again for the Seattle Seahawks. Nwosu finished the game with 2 tackles and a pass deflection. He is a big example of a player whose impact goes further than the stats.
Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold did not miss a beat in his return after being sidelined since Week 1. Sam Darnold threw for 379 yards and 4 touchdowns. He looked like a top quarterback until it was time to win the game. 2 crucial interceptions cost him and the Seahawks a win this past week.
Michael Pittman Jr.
Pittman Jr. returned from injury, but he was not much of a factor against the Bengals. Pittman Jr. finished the game with 2 catches for 16 yards.
Amon-Ra St. Brown
St. Brown, for the most part, against the Jets, was held in check. However, it would not be a Lions game if St. Brown did not make a big play or 2. St. Brown finished the game with 4 catches for 19 yards and 1 special touchdown.
Woody Marks
Woody Marks did not get much opportunity but he still made the most of it finding the endzone at least 1. Marks had 5 carries for 15 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 1 pass for 6 yards. His versatility is still on display even in a small workload.
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock was flying all over the field as he tallied up 7 total tackles against the Colts. The Texans' defense has struggled to start the season; however, Calen Bullock has remained a bright spot.
Tuli Tuipulotu
Tuli got his first sack of the season and had a productive game all across the board last week. Tuli finished the game with 1.5 sacks and 6 tackles. He needs to be more of a disruptor for this team to see success.
Mekhi Blackmon
Mekhi Blackmon was a tackling machine against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Blackmon finished with 8 total tackles on the day and 1 pass deflection. He is emerging as a important piece on the Browns defense.
Jordan Addison
Jordan Addison stepped up big as Justin Jefferson went down with an injury. Addison performed like a #1 receiver, as he put up 5 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Isaiah Pola-Mao
Pola-Mao had another productive game, as he tallied 6 total tackles against the Saints. He has played his part in this Raiders defense being a lot better than many expected.
Talanoa Hufanga
Hufanga delivered an MVP-level performance for the Denver Broncos in a big game on Sunday night. Hufanga had 5 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 interceptions. Both of his interceptions came in the 4th quarter and changed the game. His last interception was the final play of the game, sealing the victory for his team. This is exactly why the Broncos got him.
Makai Lemon
Makai Lemon against the Bears got more targets, but his impact did not increase. Lemon hauled in 3 catches for 29 yards. His disappointing start to his rookie season continues.
