On Saturday night, the USC football team defeated Penn State 31-23 in State College, Pennsylvania. With the victory, the Trojans improved to 6-1 on the 2026 season and 3-1 in Big Ten play.
In a story on Sunday, Chris Hummer of 247Sports gave his reactions to Week 6 of the college football season. Hummer had USC as one of his “stock up” teams after the Trojans took down Penn State.
“On a rainy and cold Pennsylvania evening, USC picked up a 31-23 win over Penn State (3-3),” Hummer wrote. “Maybe the Nittany Lions' recent struggles take a little luster off the win for the No. 19 Trojans (6-1), but it's a critical victory for Lincoln Riley all the same. The Trojans were just 5-8 in their previous 13 road games under Riley. They'd struggled in Eastern
Standard Time.
“This is the type of win the Trojans needed as a confidence boost as they enter a brutal late-season stretch that includes games with Wisconsin, Ohio State, Indiana and UCLA.”
As Hummer mentioned, USC’s schedule the rest of the way is not easy. The good news, however, is that the Trojans have a week off this week. Following the break, they will look to build off of the momentum from the Penn State victory entering the home stretch of the schedule.
