USC football took many losses this past week. However, former USC Trojan Talanoa Hufanga had himself a game in a primetime showcase on Sunday night. It was arguably the best performance of his NFL career. The Denver Broncos' defense has been led by Hufanga since his arrival. From the beginning, the Broncos looked to Hufanga to be a difference-maker, and so far he has been a huge hit.
On Sunday night, he came up big for them. Hufanga made numerous winning plays. Hufanga had 5 tackles, a big sack for a 10-yard loss, and 2 pass deflections. He wasn't even close to being done. He followed up with 2 interceptions in the fourth quarter. One of his interceptions was a 66-yard pick-six that gave the Broncos the lead with five minutes left in the game.
Then, on the final play of the game, the Rams - trailing 30-26 - were in the red zone with a chance to win; Hufanga stole another scoring opportunity from the Rams, picking off Matthew Stafford in the end zone as the game-sealing play.
The Broncos would not have won this football game if it weren't for Hufanga. There were many plays that swung the momentum on both sides, but no plays were bigger than the ones that came from the Trojan alumnus. The Broncos definitely got their money's worth giving him a contract two seasons ago. That contract, after a game like this, looks like a cheap deal.
