The 2025 USC Trojans had multiple veteran playmakers who fueled an explosive offense. Now that those playmakers are no longer at USC, Lincoln Riley has to lean toward a younger batch of talent to maintain offensive success. It seems aRiley has found his biggest solution to that with a freshman receiver, Trent Mosley.
Here is my overreaction take for this week following the Trojans' commanding win:
Freshman receiver Trent Mosley is already the Trojans' best playmaker on the offense. As a freshman, the game looked easy to Mosley, and he made it look just as easy to make a big play happen. Mosley, in the first week of the college football season, led all players in receiving yards.
Mosley's first game of the season stat line was impressive in multiple
aspects of the game. As a receiver alone, he was Jayden Maiava's best target. He also quickly showed he can be the most dangerous target in the offense. Mosley had 7 catches for 118 yards and a receiving touchdown on the day. He averaged a whopping 16.9 yards per catch. Mosley built that trust and confidence with Jayden Maiava in Game 1.
One of the best compliments to a great offense is great field position. With how dangerous a return man Mosley is, he will be able to consistently put the Trojans in a great position to score. On his first career punt return, he took it back 40 yards with ease. Just as impressive as he was as a receiver, he matched that in the return game.
Each time he had the football in his hands, everyone in the stadium thought he was going to score. He is that special type of playmaker. With that home-run ability and that yards-after-the-catch ability, Mosley will be the Trojans' best playmaker this season. It did not take long for this freshman to become the Trojans' most exciting player on offense.
