The USC Trojans' star at the beginning of the season, freshman receiver Trent Mosley, will miss this week at Rutgers. Mosley has been the most impactful player on the Trojans' offense other than Jayden Maiava. It will be tough for an impactful player to miss time during a crucial part of the schedule. This injury, however, opens the door for another freshman, Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, to step up.
Kayden Dixon-Wyatt will be the most productive USC receiver in the absence of Trent Mosley. Dixon-Wyatt has become more of a primary target. In the first game of the season against San Jose State, he had 6 catches for 102 yards. In three games, he has been nearly as productive as Mosley, with 181 yards and 2 catches.
Jayden Maiava, importantly, trusts him to
make plays. That will help. The Trojans have Tanook Hines and Terrell Anderson, who will also lessen the blow of Mosley's absence. I do think that in the first three games, Dixon-Wyatt has earned a bigger role in the offense than those 2. Now, with an opportunity for more targets, the sky is the limit for Dixon-Wyatt.
He is a smart route runner; he can make just about every catch, and he is just scratching the surface of how good he can be. Injuries are hell, and sometimes they can derail teams. USC thankfully has an abundance of resources at the skill positions. Kayden Dixon-Wyatt is in a great position to take over as the lead receiver.
