USC football has to clean up its own house, but it has to be said that Oregon faces its own cleanup task early in the 2026 season. Ducks Wire reacted to a very sluggish UO performance against Boise State:
"If you didn't watch the game, but just looked at the numbers, you'd assume that Oregon was in prime form on Saturday, and everything was clicking. 378 passing yards. 119 rushing yards. No interceptions. 209 yards after the catch. Four receivers over 50 yards; one with 150, and two with a touchdown. Quite a debut for offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, huh? Eh, it didn't quite feel that way throughout.
"The Ducks were stuck in the mud for a large part of the first half. Their first drive of the game went six plays for 17 yards and ended in a turnover
on downs — a 4th-and-1 screen pass that was stopped short of the marker. Their second drive went four plays for 54 yards and ended in a punt. After scoring a touchdown on their third drive, they saw another possession end in a turnover on downs — another 4th-and-1 screen pass stopped short — and another punt."
The raw stats looked fine, but the overall product was nowhere near what Oregon coaches or fans expected. To be fair to the Ducks, Boise State put up a real fight. Boise State looks like a good team this year. Nevertheless, Oregon was ranked No. 2 in preseason polls. That ranking carries higher expectations and greater hype. The Ducks didn't live up to the billing. We will see how they evolve in the coming weeks before playing USC.
