The USC Trojans are still without promising transfer Terrell Anderson. So far, what has been evident is that the young players on this team have stepped up in relief. Corey Simms has the potential to join an improved and thriving USC receiver room.
In a recent article, I broke down the players whose stocks are rising and the players whose stocks are going down. Receiver Corey Simms was a player I highlighted, and here is what I had to say:
"Corey Simms has to be a player who is still flying under the radar, even after a solid performance. With all the talent on the offense, Simms is getting overlooked; however, he can be a very valuable target for Jayden Maiava. He has a big frame at 6-foot-3, 205 lbs. He can make contested catches, and he will
fight for extra yards. He is the perfect complement to the many smaller and faster receivers the Trojans have. In Game 1, Simms had 4 catches for 42 yards. Simms had a great camp, and he kept the momentum going with his performance in Game 1."
Corey Simms saw a good amount of opportunity in Game 1, and just like in camp, he made the most of his opportunities. Simms is in a prime position to get his fair share of targets. His talent and size make him a nightmare for defenses. Maiava is building trust with his newer guys, and I wouldn't be surprised if Simms ends up becoming a top target, especially given the lack of clarity on the timetable for Terrell Anderson to return. Simms is a player who is rising, and I expect another big game from the sophomore soon.
