Duke basketball plays their second preseason scrimmage Tuesday evening, taking on the Tennessee Volunteers. Meanwhile, another one of Duke's preseason opponents just got even stronger. Monday, the Kansas Jayhawks announced the addition of former Purdue big man Trey Kaufman-Renn. Kaufman-Renn, or "TKR," was granted eligibility to play a fifth season in college basketball after spending his first four seasons with Purdue.
This is quite the controversial move, as TKR was recently drafted by the Timberwolves (No. 59 overall) in the 2026 NBA Draft and played five games for Minnesota during NBA Summer League.
While Kaufman-Renn only played four seasons with the Boilermakers, it'd be his sixth season in college basketball, having redshirted during his first
year. Now 24 years old, TKR's best season came during his junior year, where he averaged 20.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks.
Duke will face Kaufman-Renn and Kansas away from home Sunday, Oct. 25, in their final preseason game.
