Duke running back Nate Sheppard and defensive end Bryce Davis earned weekly honors from the ACC following the Blue Devils’ 17-3 season-opening victory against Tulane.
Sheppard, named the ACC Running Back of the Week, provided most of the offense for the Blue Devils, rushing for 227 yards on 35 attempts, both career highs, while scoring both of Duke’s touchdowns. His presence was felt immediately as the sophomore ran 11 times for 51 yards and a score on the Blue Devils’ first drive, which took 9:53 off the clock.
In his first career start, Davis was a massive part of a Blue Devils’ defense that held Tulane to 54 total rushing yards, recording six tackles, three tackles for a loss and two sacks. He was named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Duke travels to Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
