Former No. 1 overall pick and Duke phenom Zion Williamson has something to prove ahead of his seventh NBA season (missed the entire 2021-22 season to a foot injury). In 276 games over six years to this point, Williamson holds averages of 23.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, one steal and 0.5 blocks. While he has made two All-Star appearances, both Duke and New Orleans Pelicans fans were expecting a bit more from him at the NBA level, especially considering the Carolina native has yet to suit up for the playoffs.
Entering the 2026-27 season, Williamson appears determined to change the narrative surrounding his career. According to Pelicans head of basketball operations Joe Dumars, Williamson is in "impeccable condition" entering training camp,
having dropped seven pounds from a season ago. During NBA media day, Williamson himself discussed his desire to make a greater impact throughout his career, saying, "I am not where I want to be. I am just not where I need to be, and I'm not where I want to be."
Having averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks during his lone season with the Blue Devils, Duke supporters know what Williamson is capable of better than anyone.
