With Duke leading Illinois 31-27 in the fourth quarter, Walker Eget dropped back to pass only to get hit. The Blue Devils’ quarterback took some time getting up off the field, ultimately having to be helped making it to the sidelines as he favored one of his legs.
It was a scary moment as Eget was playing his best game so far since arriving at San Jose State. It didn’t last long, as he came back into the game and played the rest of the time as the Blue Devils walked out of Champaign with a massive win.
On Wednesday, Duke head coach Manny Diaz gave a positive update on the quarterback’s status heading into Saturday’s matchup against Stanford.
“Yeah, Walker's been totally healthy this week,” Diaz said. “It's been great to see him. He practiced on
Sunday night, which was great. So yeah, he's had no restrictions.”
The quarterback rebounded against the Illini following a Duke debut in which he said he played “not very good.” The San Jose State transfer completed 15-of-21 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, including a few critical throws in the win.
After the game, he joked about limping off the field in the fourth quarter.
“Don't mind me, I'm just dramatic,” Eget said. “I'm sorry. No, I mean, things happen in football, and you just got to be able to overcome it.”
