Former Duke star Cooper Flagg addressed the media ahead of his preseason opener with the Dallas Mavericks in Macao, China. There, Flagg fielded many questions, including one about the upcoming 2027 FIBA World Cup. A former Team USA U17 gold medalist, Flagg was asked about representing Team USA next summer.
"I haven't really thought about it. Obviously, I have played for Team USA before, under-17s, and stuff like that. So, I'm always looking forward to being able to represent my country," said last year's Rookie of the Year Award winner.
"That's something I take a lot of pride in. Whatever the case may be, if I'm asked to do something like that, I think it'll be an incredible opportunity."
In the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Team USA's roster included many
rising stars like Anthony Edwards and another Duke alum, Paolo Banchero. Current NBA veteran and former Blue Devils forward Brandon Ingram was also selected for the squad. Considering Flagg's skills and status, he'd make an easy choice if healthy for the 2027 edition.
Not to mention, Flagg has experience working with Team USA, as he practiced with players like LeBron James and Stephen Curry ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics before he began his collegiate career at Duke.
