Prior to the 2026-27 college basketball season, the ACC recently conducted a handful of polls, predicting the conference champion and other awards. The ACC also crowned the conference's preseason Rookie of the Year, choosing a current Duke Blue Devil. That recognition belonged to incoming freshman Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje, who had a dominant summer.
It started with Team USA, as Boumtje-Boumtje led America's U17 team to a gold medal at the U17 FIBA World Cup, taking home the tournament MVP trophy in the process.
Back in July, Boumtje-Boumtje was predicted to be a future No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft after his two seasons at Duke. In his latest matchup for the Blue Devils against Belmont, Boumtje-Boumtje showed his potential, scoring 19 points
to go along with seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
