After beginning the season 0-2 with losses to the Atlanta Hawks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Orlando Magic received more bad news Saturday. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Magic star and former Duke No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero has suffered an ankle sprain and is expected to miss multiple weeks at the very least.
Before his injury against Minnesota, Banchero had tallied 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal in 26 minutes. Prior to that, the former Blue Devil had an impressive stat line during opening night. Against fellow schoolmate Jalen Johnson, Banchero scored 35 points to go along with 10 assists, seven rebounds and one steal.
In his absence, the Magic will search for more scoring from Franz Wagner, Desmond
Bane and backup forward Tristan Da Silva. Another Duke alum, Wendell Carter Jr., could see an increased offensive role as well.
