Many Duke supporters were excited to tune into NBA action Wednesday night, as former Blue Devil sharpshooter Kon Knueppel returned to the lineup for the Charlotte Hornets after missing the first eight games of the season with a hamstring strain.
Unfortunately for Knueppel and his fans, the sophomore's debut didn't last very long. Knueppel played just six minutes before reaggravating his left leg, causing him to leave the game for what was officially deemed as left leg soreness. He did not return.
In his limited playing time, Knueppel went 0-for-1 from the field but did score three points, all at the free-throw line. Following the contest, Hornets head coach Charles Lee could not provide an update on Knueppel's status.
"We'll evaluate him more obviously
when we get home from the road trip tonight," he said.
Knueppel's teammate, another Duke sharpshooter, Grayson Allen, finished with 22 points off the bench on 5-for-7 shooting from 3-point range. Sion James finished with 10 points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist as well.
Looking ahead, Allen, James and the Hornets will host Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics Friday.
