Following an alumni scrimmage between notable former Blue Devils like Kyrie Irving, Jayson Tatum and Paolo Banchero, Irving and Tatum took a moment to share their wisdom with Duke's current roster. Irving and Tatum, former teammates at the NBA level with the Boston Celtics, each provided the team with their own unique message.
"We always say, 'Have fun,' but we got a target on our back, everywhere we go. So get used to it. Get dialled in, I know you guys are. Sophomores, juniors, seniors, lead the freshmen. You guys keep up the good work," said Irving.
"I enjoy coming back, getting to know all of y'all. Quite honestly, this is what this is all about. When I was here, guys like Jabari (Parker) came back. So, you know, it's just our responsibility
to pay it forward. It means a lot to this program and we care about you guys. As much as y'all enjoyed this, I know we did too. And we just want to see y'all be the best that y'all can be," Tatum said.
With 15 All-Star appearances and two NBA championships between both Irving and Tatum, Duke's current roster couldn't have chosen many better players to play with and learn from.
As for the aforementioned Parker, he visited Scheyer and spoke to Duke's players as recently as August.
