Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg took the floor for the first time as teammates in China Sunday morning in another preseason matchup against the Houston Rockets. After scoring 19 points in 19 minutes during his first preseason game, Flagg was a bit less efficient this time out, scoring 13 points on 3-for-10 shooting to go along with seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block. As for Irving, he appeared to be in great shape following an ACL injury, scoring 17 points in 22 minutes while also tallying three assists, two rebounds and zero turnovers.
As for other Duke alumni around the league, Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic faced Tyrese Proctor and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Banchero struggled, shooting 10% from the field in a 10-point,
seven rebound effort. Wendell Carter Jr. finished with four points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. However, it was Proctor who finished on the winning side of the matchup, scoring three points off the bench in Cleveland's 119-105 victory.
After impressing in his Charlotte Hornets debut, Grayson Allen (and the injured Kon Knueppel) sat out of Sunday's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. That said, former Blue Devil Sion James fared well again, scoring 11 points off the bench on 3-for-4 shooting from downtown, earning praise from his teammate Brandon Miller.
Lastly, the Jones brothers squared off against one another as the Chicago Bulls took on the Denver Nuggets. Tre Jones scored zero points in 10 minutes but did add five assists, one rebound and one steal. Older brother Tyus Jones tallied four points, two assists and two steals for Denver as the Nuggets won a close contest 133-128.
