Nate Sheppard put on a record-breaking performance on Saturday in Duke’s 47-2 victory over Boston College, scoring a single-game record five touchdowns and his 18th touchdown of the year, a single-season record for the Blue Devils.
Needless to say, the Duke running back earned honors after the game, including ACC Running Back of the Week on Monday.
The sophomore got off to a hot start in the first quarter, taking it in from a yard and two yards out as Duke began to build its lead. His 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter showed his explosiveness as he juked a defender, got to the outside and outraced the Eagles’ defense for the score.
It was more of the same in the third quarter, as Sheppard scored from four yards out and a yard out before
Manny Diaz put in the second stringers. It’s the third time this season that Sheppard has earned the weekly award.
