A notable Duke alum recently accepted a new position in the WNBA after many years of work in the NBA. After working with the Houston Rockets for three seasons, the Memphis Grizzlies for four and spending two seasons as the vice president of player personnel for the Philadelphia 76ers, Ariana Andonian was named the new general manager of the Los Angeles Sparks.
Andonian was not a former collegiate athlete at Duke but earned a master's degree in business administration while serving as a player personnel consultant for the Blue Devils. With four games remaining in the regular season, the Sparks sit in a tie for 10th in the standings with a 15-25 record.
Without enough time to catch the eighth-place Dallas Wings, Los Angeles will miss the playoffs
once more, their sixth consecutive losing season since the 2020 campaign. However, the Sparks are on the right side of WNBA history with three championships in 30 seasons as a franchise.
