Duke head coach Jon Scheyer recently sat down with college basketball insider Joe Tipton to discuss many topics, including the upcoming 2026-27 NCAA season. Scheyer was also asked about what sets Duke apart from other universities when it comes to landing high-level prospects.
Scheyer, a former point guard at Duke, had many answers, but one overarching theme was shown in his response, that being competition.
"When you're trying to become an NBA player and you want to win at the highest level of college basketball, there's no running from competition," he said. "The best thing that we have, I think it's our biggest advantage by far, is the environment that we have. The competitiveness in practice, the ability for guys to have to learn how to be their
best every day."
While Scheyer didn't mention it, another pivotal factor has to be the incredible alumni who have attended the university. Not only do these players come back to campus to work with current students, but they also prove to incoming recruits that students who attend Duke can experience success on basketball's brightest stage.
