Although the Phoenix Suns traded away Grayson Allen this summer, a Duke alum and an efficient 3-point shooter, they filled that gap by adding another former Blue Devil, sharpshooter Luke Kennard. Throughout his nine-year NBA career, Kennard has led the league in 3-point percentage three times, including last season, where he shot an incredible 47.8% from beyond the arc.
At 44.2% for his career, Kennard is the NBA's active leader in 3-point percentage and trails only one player in the all-time ranks, current Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. After spending his first summer in Phoenix, Kennard received praise from his new head coach, Jordan Ott.
"There are very few movement shooters in the NBA," he said. "It feels like they are going
away and he can do it. And I think he has more playmaking ability. We saw it there at the end of the last season, the playmaking ability of him.
"Just knowing him and how he approaches it, he is one of those (guys with a) routine, (he's) consistent, and the shooting piece is as real as I have ever seen,” Ott added.
A 19.5 point-per-game scorer in his sophomore season at Duke, there's no denying that Kennard has become one of the league's best 3-point specialists since entering the NBA as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
