Former NBA All-Star and current Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero recently spoke about his experience scrimmaging against Duke's current roster ahead of the 2026-27 season. While Banchero recognized Duke's talent right away, he was quick to bring up the results of the scrimmage.
“We were in their shoes; sometimes you just got to show them, winning eight games in a row, lets them know they still got work to do," he said.
"I love this team," Banchero continued. "A ton of talent top to bottom. I'm glad I'm not a coach having to choose who the starters are and all that, because there's a ton of talent on this team. So, as long as they stick together, the sky is the limit."
Banchero, a former No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has a strong
relationship with Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, as the two have linked up multiple times this summer, including a trip to watch five-star prospect Beckham Black, the younger brother of Banchero's teammate, Anthony Black.
