With the start of the college football season just a few weeks away, the Texas Longhorns are making national headlines. On Tuesday, Brandon Baker and Trevor Goosby were placed on the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy. The award is given annually to the nation's best college interior lineman on offense or defense.
For Baker and Goosby, the latest honor marks a special moment in their careers. It is the first time the Longhorns duo have been included on the award's watch list. If either were to win the award, they would join impressive company in Kelvin Banks Jr., who took home the honors in 2024, and T'Vondre Sweat, who won it the year before.

Over the last few years, Goosby has been a key piece to the Longhorns' success. He started 13 games at left tackle last season and was named a 2025 First-Team All-SEC honoree. With Goosby leading the way, the Longhorns' offense was hard to stop after an up-and-down start. As they chase a national title this season, the 21-year-old will again be relied on heavily.
While Baker didn't add to his trophy case during the 2025 campaign, he still was one of Steve Sarkisian's most valuable pieces. He started 13 games at right tackle as a sophomore and helped protect quarterback Arch Manning. With Baker and Cosby back in the field and new weapons on offense in Cam Coleman and Raleek Brown, the Longhorns should be able to put points on the board in bunches once the regular season begins.

Although Goosby and Baker will be focused on helping Texas win as many games as possible, they will be keeping an eye on how voting for the Outland Trophy plays out. The semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 18, followed by an announcement on ESPN of the three finalists on Nov. 24. Less than a month later, the winner will be revealed at the Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN.
