Sometimes a bye week can actually cost a team in the rankings. But Texas made it through its week off unscathed. The Longhorns remain the No. 1 team in the nation in the newest US LBM Coaches Poll. Texas received 45 first place votes, the same number they got last week after beating Tennessee in Knoxville.
The Georgia Bulldogs gained three first place votes (from 17 to 20) and are still No. 2 in the nation. The Bulldogs beat Vanderbilt at home on Saturday. Notre Dame, who dispatched Bill Belichick and North Carolina with relative ease, hold firm at No. 3. Miami and Indiana round out the top five.
The top seven spots all remained constant from last week, with Ohio State and Alabama steady at No. 6 and No. 7 respectively. BYU, Texas Tech and LSU
all move up one spot to fill out the Top 10.
The biggest change from last week was the fall of Florida. After rising all the way to No. 8 last week, the Gators plummeted seven spots to No. 15 after getting dominated at Missouri. Iowa, who were handled by Ohio State on Saturday, dropped four spots and are now No. 18. Mississippi State also dropped four spots after losing to Bama.
Thanks to the big win over Florida, Mizzou jumped nine spots, all the way up to No. 16. Pitt jumped into the Top 25 after knocking off Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Tennessee also rose three spots after beating Auburn.
Kentucky also joined the Top 25, giving the SEC a total of 10 ranked teams, including the top two. The Big Ten places six teams in the ranking. The Big 12 and ACC each have four schools ranked in the latest poll.
