After an embarrassing choke job to the rival Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Shootout, the Texas Longhorns have fallen in the newest US LBM Coaches Poll. OU beat Texas 27-24 on the last play of the game after the Longhorns completely collapsed in the second half at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. UT is now No. 6 in the new ranking.
Penalties and ill-timed Arch Manning interceptions doomed Texas in Dallas. But there is plenty of blame to go around. Voters severely punished UT for multitude of mistakes and undiciplined play against OU.
Georgia, who beat Alabama 20-17 Saturday night, is the new No. 1 team in the nation. So far this season, the Bulldogs have looked the part of the top-ranked team in the nation. Notre Dame slots into the No. 2 slot. Miami,
Indiana and Ohio State all moved up a spot to fill out the top five.
Even with the loss to UGA, Alabama stays constant at No. 7. BYU, Texas Tech and Ole Miss fill out the rest of the top ten. UCLA and Kentucky are the biggest risers in the new ranking. The Bruins jumped up 10 spots to No. 12. The Wildcats jumped up eight spots after beating LSU to No. 17.
The biggest falls in the newest poll were LSU and Oregon. The Tigers plummeted 11 places and are now No. 21. The Ducks slipped 12 spots to No. 25 and are in danger of dropping out of the poll altogether.
The SEC has nine teams ranked in the newest poll. The Big Ten lands six in the ranking. The Big 12 has five ranked teams and the ACC has three,
