Coming out of high school, expectations were high for Michael Terry III. The Longhorns running back was one of the best players at his position and was seen as a game-changing talent. On Saturday against Ole Miss, with Texas needing a win, Terry showed why.
Against the nation's seventh-best team, Terry recorded 41 yards on eight carries. That was the second most on the team, trailing only Raleek Brown, who had 157. While his touches were limited, the Texas native made the most of his playing time, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

As Terry helped give the Longhorns a change of pace out of the backfield, his play did not go unnoticed. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian praised his running
back after Texas emerged with its fifth win of the season.
When asked about Terry's performance, Sarkisian said, "I thought Michael Terry was a great change-up—a little different tempo of hitting the same runs. … I think obviously Michael in the short-yardage, goal-line type stuff was effective as well. Really proud of Michael. His first real action, and I thought he stepped up really well for us tonight."

With his best performance of the 2026 campaign in the books, Terry now has 88 rushing yards and one touchdown this season. Those numbers should continue to improve as the talented Sophomore's snap total should increase with wins at premium.
On Saturday, Terry showed why the future is bright in Austin with him expected to be a key figure out of the backfield.
