The Ohio State win has been left behind and attention has turned to the UTSA Roadrunners. They come into Austin 2-0, after beating Texas’ Week One opponent, Texas State last week. They also come in with a remarkably veteran team. Jeff Traylor has done a great job retaining his talent, especially his QB1 Owen McCown.
Outside of McCown, here are the five Roadrunners you should know before Saturday:
RB Will Henderson II
This is one of the best RBs in the Group of 6. Henderson is a redshirt-sophomore coming off an 866 yard season in 2025. Through two games, he’s totalled 181 yards on 23 carries, averaging 7.9 yards/carry. His explosivity is a real threat, as is his passing catching ability out of the backfield. A’Marion Peterson and Brandon High Jr. will factor into the run
game as well but Henderson will be the one Texas sees most often on Saturday. Keeping him in check is a must for the Longhorns.
WR Mekhi Anderson
Owen McCown does a great job executing the UTSA offense at a high level. His favorite target thus far this season has been Mekhi Anderson, who leads the team in receptions through two games. Anderson is a new contributor for the Roadrunners this season, but has been with the program his whole career. He totalled just 5 catches for 66 yards and a TD last season, marks he’s already surpassed this season. At 5’10”, 170lbs, he’s a shifty player that’s dangerous after the catch. McCown is very accurate so Anderson will get the ball, it’s just about making sure you limit his yards after the catch.
TE Brandon Young Jr.
The UTSA offense does not include the TEs in the passing game very often. When they do, it’s largely near the goal line which leads us to Brandon Young Jr.'s stat line this season: 2 catches, 8 yards, 2 TDs. He’s scored in each of the Roadrunners contests, including opening the scoring against Texas State. He’s a strong run blocker, so it’s easy to lose track of him in the passing game in the redzone, despite him being 6’7”. Texas will have to keep track of No. 89 in short yardage situations, especially near the goal line.
LB James Walley Jr.
The UTSA pass rush has been nearly invisible through two games. They have just one sack on the season and it belongs to Walley Jr.. He has 10 total tackles through two games, following a season where he had just 19 on the season. In a team that struggles to get to the QB, Texas making sure they keep track of No. 34 is vital. If they can do that, Arch Manning should have clean pockets to stand in on Saturday night.
CB Zach Morris
As much as the Roadrunners have struggled to get to the QB, they have done a nice job forcing turnovers. They’ve forced five turnovers this season, including four INTs from this secondary. One belongs to senior Zach Morris, who is playing in his fight year of college football. He’s a solid coverage corner and brings some great length to the table at 6’0”. The secondary as a whole doesn’t have any outright stars, but Morris is one of many veteran, smart DBs for the Roadrunners.
