Although the 2026-2027 women's college basketball season is still weeks away, the Texas Longhorns are making headlines. On Tuesday , the Associated Press released its preseason poll and ranked the Longhorns No. 6 in the nation. After falling just a few wins short of a national title last season, Texas is poised to be one of the nation's best teams.
As the Longhorns look to live up to the lofty expectations, they have a roster full of talent. Three-time First Team All-American and three-time Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year winner Madison Booker will lead them. She will not be the only familiar face, as Breya Cunningham, who scored in double figures in 10 games last season, will be back.

While having Booker and Cunningham in the mix will provide a major boost, the Longhorns are set to welcome a talented freshman class. That group will include Addison Bjorn, Brianna Crittendon, Isi Etute, Amalia Holguin, and Lizzy Spaight. They are ranked as the top in the nation and will be relied on heavily this season.
The Longhorns' improvements don't stop there, as they were also busy in the transfer portal. Texas added Zya Vann from Oklahoma, Jada Bediako from Purdue, and signed Jayda Clark from Australia.

With expectations high, Austin fans won't have to wait long to see this roster in action. Texas opens the 2026-27 season with a home contest against FDU on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The Longhorns were also ranked second in the SEC preseason poll released Wednesday morning.
Last season, Texas went 35-4 and thrived in conference play with a 13-3 mark.
