Following a busy offseason, the Texas Longhorns are once again seen as national title favorites. Their new additions include wide receiver Cam Coleman, running Back Hollywood Smithers, and linebacker Raheem Biles. While that trio is expected to play key roles, ESPN reporter Dave Wilson says the Longhorns' X-factor could be defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp.
Less than two weeks ago, Wilson gave his observations on what players are saying about Muschamp. When talking about the Longhorns' coordinator, Wilson said, " Muschamp's style has drawn raves from players in spring practice but he hasn't called plays since 2020. Sarkisian's move was made with a national championship in mind. Texas is loaded, and Muschamp will be able to turn the Horns loose."

While Muschamp joined the Longhorns staff just a few months ago, he brings an impressive resume to the table. He was part of a Georgia coaching staff that won two national titles and dominated a competitive SEC conference. Now he is on the opposite side of a rivalry that struggled against the Bulldogs in recent years.
Since becoming a Longhorn, Muschamp has worked with a talented veteran group. That includes Colin Simmons and Biles, who recently earned spots on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy preseason watch list. They will be joined by Jelani McDonald and Graceson Littleton. Part of Muschamp's success will be measured by how that group continues to improve.

Although it has been an offseason full of change, the Longhorns are better positioned than ever with Muschamp in the mix. He knows what it takes to win a title and have success in the SEC. That combination will become invaluable once the regular season finally begins.
If this team can meet expectations, then it should be an unforgettable fall in Austin, and Muschamp could be adding to his trophy case when the final whistle on the 2026 college football season blows.
