Arch Manning's family are SEC legends. His Uncle Peyton was a star for the Tennessee Volunteers and his grandfather Archie and Uncle Eli both headlined at Ole Miss. The Texas Longhorns quarterback beat Tennessee. Soon, he will face the Rebels. Who will Uncle Eli root for? Family or alma mater. The former Giants QB says the choice is easy.
“You root for your family," Eli said this week on the Pardon My Take podcast. "I’m going to root for my nephew in every single game he plays in.”
That sentiment echos Eli's brother Peyton, who said over the summer he would root for Arch and Texas when the Longhorns played Tennessee.
"Nothing is more important to me than my family," Peyton said this summer at the Manning Passing Academy. "And when you have a nephew
playing, I pull very hard for him every single Saturday. So, that's pretty much a no-brainer, that you're pulling for your nephew to play well. Everyone knows where my loyalties lie on all other Saturdays."
Eli says he has his entire life to root for Ole Miss, but while Arch is in college, he will root for Texas.
"I have maybe two years to root for my nephew in college," Eli Manning said. "I'm going to root for my nephew to root in every single game that he plays in. ... This is a kid that I've know since he was born. I've played football with him. I've done drills with him. I've taught him the game of football. He's my brother's son. He's family. You root for family in these scenarios. It's bigger than your college. It's bigger than where you went. It is your blood. I'm going to support him 100% on his football journey for the rest of his life."
Texas hosts Ole Miss at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24 in Austin.
