The 2026 season has started disastrously for the Chargers, especially for Justin Herbert.
Herbert is off to the worst start of his career by far, and the Chargers' 0-3 start has done him no favors. It's been a rough go for the 28-year-old, so much so that head coach Jim Harbaugh said Herbert simply needs to be better with his decision-making.
"Be better. Be better. And that drives Justin, that drives me, that drives his position coach, that drives Mike, the coordinator. I mean, drives us all," Harbaugh said.
Herbert's decision-making hasn't been great through the first three games of the season. The Chargers quarterback has thrown four interceptions in three games, along with just three touchdowns.
Herbert is also only completing 59.1% of his passes,
which would be a career low if the season ended today. On top of that, he is on pace for roughly 3,553 passing yards, which would also be a career low in a 17-game season.
Mike McDaniel's offense was supposed to take Herbert and the offense to new heights. Instead, it's left many scratching their heads about why this offense has been so dormant to start the season.
Harbaugh was asked whether he plans to make any changes to the offensive play calling. He said he still has the utmost confidence in McDaniel.
"No. We trust Mike. We believe in Mike," Harbaugh said.
The Chargers' offense has struggled to capitalize on big moments this season, leading some to question whether McDaniel's system is too complex. Whatever the problem may be, Los Angeles needs to fix it — and quickly.
