Not much is going for the Chargers, who sit at 0-4 and are in the midst of the most daunting part of their schedule.
A lot hasn't gone right. However, with 13 games left in the season, there is plenty of time to turn things around. Los Angeles hasn't given its fans or the media any reason to be optimistic, but former general manager Tom Telesco isn't pushing the panic button yet.
Telesco appeared on the Move The Stick Podcast with Daniel Jeremiah and offered reasons to be optimistic about the Chargers' future.
"There has to be some optimism," Telesco said. "But look, the situation they're in, they're 0-4, they're expected to be much better. If you didn't have a head coach right now and you're like, you know, we need someone to help us get out of
this, it'll probably be Jim Harbaugh. Like the guy you want to bring in, as far as the atmosphere, the culture, to pull us out of this, it just hasn't been clean football."
The Chargers brought in Harbaugh a little over a month after firing Telesco.
Telesco was the team's general manager for 11 seasons, from 2013 to 2023. He led the Chargers to three playoff appearances and two wins.
Entering the season, the Chargers made all the 'right moves', hiring Mike McDaniel and making 'improvements' around the margins. So far, none of those moves have paid off.
However, Telesco believes they have the right pieces in place to turn the season around.
"I keep coming back to Mike McDaniel is a really smart coach. Justin Herbert is a very smart quarterback, and Jim Harbaugh has a ton of experience and has won at every level. You put those three people in the same room, and they'll get things figured out. Now it just has to happen sooner rather than later."
The Chargers will look for their first win of the season this Sunday against the Broncos.
