The Chargers enter the 2026 season with one of the best head coach/quarterback duos in the NFL, but where exactly do they rank?
Garrett Podell of CBS Sports ranked the NFL's top 10 QB-coach duos and put the Chargers duo at No. 9.
"No team had a more dire offensive line situation than the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025," Podell wrote.
"The Chargers allowed 60 sacks (the most in team history) and the most quarterback hits in the NFL (138) while having 11 different starting offensive line combinations because of injuries, which was tied for the most in the NFL.
"Yet, quarterback Justin Herbert, whose 24,820 total passing yards rank as the second-most in a player's first six seasons in NFL history, and head coach Jim Harbaugh figured out a way to drag
Los Angeles into the postseason. The Chargers appeared in the AFC Wild Card round before the offensive line disintegrated into the New England January air. The only things holding back this duo are team health and postseason success. "
The Chargers narrowly cracked the top 10, with the Jaguars duo of Trevor Lawrence and Liam Coen at No. 10.
As for where the others within their division rank, the Chiefs made the list at No. 2.
Harbaugh and Herbert will enter their third season together. Through their first two seasons, the two have collected a 22-12 record, earning back-to-back playoff appearances. Although that's been the case, they have yet to win a playoff game.
The hope is that things will change in 2026, as they have the tools to make a deep playoff run, starting with those two. Herbert and Harbaugh must prove they can turn that regular season success into a true Super Bowl chase.
If not, some serious conversations may be had by next spring.
