The Chargers are in a position they haven't been in since 2003. Los Angeles sits at 0-5 and has shown little sign of turning things around.
With that in mind, trade rumors surrounding Khalil Mack have continued to swirl.
Mack has reportedly been on the trade block for the past few weeks, and he was recently asked directly about those rumors.
During his press conference on Thursday, Mack said he's focused on getting the Chargers back on track.
"I'm focused on this team and what I'm doing right now. … I feel like the outside noise is the outside noise," Mack said.
Mack was later asked if he's focused on winning a ring, why not chase one? The 35-year-old veteran said he wants to do it in Los Angeles.
"We're still ring chasing here," Mack said.
If the
Chargers keep losing, they'll likely trade Mack to give him a chance to make a deep playoff run elsewhere. However, Mack is not interested in that as things stand.
The Chargers' defense has found its touch and is the only bright spot across the three phases. Mack and the Bolts allow opponents to convert just 31.3% of third downs, which ranks 5th best in the NFL.
The defense could only do so much, as they have frequently been let down by field position due to a struggling, turnover-prone offense (leading the league with 13 turnovers), leaving the unit exposed in late-game situations.
Mack is a Charger heading into Week 6, and he'll look to do his part to lead his team to their first win of the season.
