The Chargers have decided to let Mike McDaniel continue to call all plays.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh announced the news on Wednesday when speaking to the media.
After much speculation about whether McDaniel would remain in his role, Harbaugh ultimately decided to let the former head coach continue running the offense.
Before the bye week, Harbaugh vowed the team would “look at everything” to improve the offense after a poor start.
"We have to address everything, especially offensively. We're not scoring enough points," Harbaugh said.
After a little over a week of speculation, McDaniel remains safe (for now).
The Chargers' offense has been historically and disastrously bad during their first six weeks of the season. It's contributed to their 0-6 start
under McDaniel, as they rank among the bottom in many offensive categories.
Los Angeles ranks 30th in scoring, 26th in total yards, 27th in third-down conversions, and 23rd in red-zone scoring.
The Chargers have stumbled out of the gate and are experiencing their worst season in over a quarter-century. They are the only winless team in the league and have an 18% chance to land the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The No. 1 pick was far from the Chargers' minds, but now they are right in the thick of it. However, they are poised to turn things around, starting with this Sunday's contest against the Rams.
