The Chargers are adding former first-round pick cornerback Kaiir Elam to their practice squad.
Elam, who was recently with the Chiefs during training camp, will remain in the AFC West.
Kansas City released Elam prior to roster cuts; however, he quickly found a team in the Chargers.
Elam is a former first-round pick in 2022 by the Bills. He was drafted two picks after Trent McDuffie, and the Bills' move did not pay off. Ultimately, Buffalo cut ties with Elam, trading him to the Cowboys in March 2025 for late-round picks.
The 25-year-old has been with two other teams since being traded: the Titans and Chiefs.
Elam made four appearances with the Titans in 2025, where he recorded one pass deflection, two fumble recoveries and four tackles. The cornerback
also made seven appearances with the Cowboys last season.
In April 2026, Elam signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs, but his time in Kansas City was short.
In four NFL seasons, Elam has recorded 114 tackles, four tackles for loss, eight passes defended, two interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 43 games and 19 starts.
Elam is entering the final year of his four-year, $13 million rookie deal.
