Chargers tackle Rashawn Slater underwent successful surgery for his high ankle sprain on Thursday.
Slater will be placed on the injured reserve, meaning he must miss a minimum of four games.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Slater’s surgery was a tightrope procedure intended to speed his return from injury.
Slater suffered the injury in Sunday's Week 4 matchup against the Seahawks. Prior to the surgery, he was expected to miss four to six weeks.
If that timeline remains, there is a chance he will miss time beyond Week 10.
With Slater sidelined for the next few weeks, rookie Logan Taylor is the most likely candidate to fill in as the starting left tackle. The team could also turn to Branson Taylor, who is eligible to return from injured reserve
this week.
The 27-year-old has suffered his fair share of injuries in his career. In 2025, Slater missed the entire season after tearing his left patellar tendon during training camp last August.
Slater was placed on the IR and missed all 17 games for the Chargers.
Now, the Chargers will miss Slater for several weeks.
Slater signed a four-year, $114 million extension with the Chargers in July 2025, but the investment hasn't paid off so far. He's appeared in just four games since signing the deal.
