The Chargers suffered a brutal Week 1 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, 26-14.
Los Angeles was flat for most of the contest and was outplayed in all three phases. The Cardinals were the more prepared and physical team in the season opener, and the Chargers fell flat on their face.
It was evident, especially in the second half. While many Chargers were unhappy with their performance, tight end Charlie Kolar offered a blunt assessment.
Kolar spoke to the media after the game and didn't hold back after the game.
“Just not good enough, plain and simple,” Kolar said.
“Can’t false start on my part. Special teams unit, can’t give up a blocked punt. Got to be more efficient on first and second down. Got to be better at lining up. Procedure penalties; we've
got to be better at protecting and adjusting, better at running the ball. Got to be better at staying in front of the chains.
“Overall, it’s just not good enough.”
Kolar did not record a single stat in the contest and was not targeted. He played in 30 offensive snaps, which accounted for 55 percent of all the Chargers' offensive snaps.
Cardinals first-year head coach Mike LaFleur had his team ready to play.
As for the Chargers, things unraveled in the fourth quarter. In their first three possessions, they had a blocked punt, Justin Herbert was intercepted, and they turned the ball over on downs on a fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line.
It was a quarter from hell for the Chargers, so much so that the crowd started booing the team.
The Chargers and Kolar will look to regroup in Week 2 when they host the Raiders.
