The Chargers are preparing for their game against the Seahawks on Sunday, October 4, at 1:25 pm PT.
Here are five key things to know about Seattle ahead of the Week 4 matchup:
Coming off a loss
The Seahawks enter with a 2-1 record after suffering a tight 33-31 defeat against the Commanders. It snapped a long win streak dating back to last year's championship run.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba's hot start
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been a force for Seattle's offense. He has racked up a league-leading 405 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Smith-Njigba joined Jerry Rice as the only players in NFL history to begin a season with 120+ receiving yards and a touchdown in each of the first three games.
Ground game has yet to get going
While the passing game has flourished under quarterback Sam Darnold, the rushing attack has hit a massive
slump without starter Kenneth Walker III, who is now with the Chiefs. The Seahawks failed to crack 100 total rushing yards in two of their first three games, managing a meager 44 rushing yards (2.4 yards per carry) against Washington. First-round pick Jadarian Price has struggled with a timeshare workload and back-to-back weeks with lost fumbles.
Despite a dud in Week 3, still a dominant defense
Despite giving up 33 points to Washington on three costly giveaways that translated into 21 points, head coach Mike Macdonald’s defense remains arguably the most efficient unit in football. The Seahawks defense enters Week 4 as the only unit in the NFL permitting fewer than 250 total yards per game (228.7). They also lead the league in fewest yards allowed per drive (21.4) and are third in points allowed per game (16.7)
Health of the secondary is worth monitoring
The defensive backfield took a major hit last week with starting safeties Julian Love (calf) and Ty Okada (hamstring) sidelined. Without Love, who led the team in interceptions (2) and pass breakups (3) entering the game, the unit lacked its usual elite communication and takeaway threat in Week 3.
