The Chargers are off to a 0-4 start to the season, their worst since the 2017 season.
Los Angeles has had a tough go, and things won't get any easier until at least after Week 10.
It's been brutal for everyone involved, and because not many expected the Chargers to start as they did, Mike Jones of The Athletic tagged them as the most disappointing team through the quarter of the season.
"Winless through four weeks, the Chargers look completely lost and in no shape to contend for a third straight playoff berth under Jim Harbaugh," Jones wrote.
"Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel should have helped quarterback Justin Herbert reach another level while arming him with a highly creative attack. Instead, Herbert appears to have regressed, and it’s hard
to find a bright spot on that side of the ball.
"Los Angeles’ defense has played nearly as poorly. Rather than finally getting over the first-round playoff hump, the Chargers could hit the reset button once again this offseason, if not sooner."
When it rains, it pours for the Bolts.
The Chargers are ranked near the bottom in almost every major offensive stat. Justin Herbert is playing some of the worst football of his career, on pace for career lows in touchdowns and passing yards.
Outside of Ladd McConkey, the wide receiver position has been underwhelming, and the running back position has been run by committee, with none of the three really establishing themselves.
As for the defense, they've found their spots, creating turnovers and keeping games close, especially over the past two weeks. On top of that, the Chargers have been solid at stopping the run.
Overall, the offense has put the Chargers in tough spots, making it difficult for them to overcome. Combine that with questionable coaching and decision-making, and Los Angeles sits at 0-4 with the light at the end of the tunnel nowhere in sight.
